Job Description:
SCOPE OF POSITION:Responsible for support to the hospital's
infection prevention and control program that covers the following
functions: participation in the development and implementation of
the hospital infection prevention and control program; patient
surveillance, data collection and reporting of infections;
monitoring regulatory/accreditation compliance; staff education and
training and policy/procedure development and
implementation.RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs hospital-wide infection
prevention and control surveillance and implements the approved
infection prevention and control program as designed by the ID
MD/IC team.Participates in the development of the annual infection
control and prevention risk assessment and goal
achievements.Administrates and collects infectious disease data and
reports to appropriate hospital departments and committees and
regulatory agencies.Participates in the systematic evaluation of
activities and outcomes.Participates in the development and
implementation of program changes whenever significant risks
occur.Investigates significant infectious disease cluster events
and participates in the plan and implementation to prevent future
occurrences.Develops educational materials and conducts education
in infection prevention and control practices during orientation of
new staff and as needed with existing staff.Develops, reviews and
revises infectious disease policies and procedures.Participates in
infection prevention/control performance improvement
initiatives.Participates in infection prevention/control
collaborative meetings to improve best practice compliance.Monitors
regulatory and accreditation expectations and develops action plans
for implementation as needed.Performs ICRA and monitors compliance
as needed at construction sites in clinical areas.Leads root cause
analysis for HAIs.Performs all other duties as
assigned.REQUIREMENTS:Ability to work independently in a
time-oriented environmentPossesses effective communication
skills.Working knowledge of regulatory requirements related to
infection prevention and control practices.Knowledge of clinical
epidemiology.Ability to use computer software for managing work
files, data collection and data entry.Physical requirements:
Standing, walking, sitting, bending and reaching. Most work
performed on the patient care units.Current Connecticut RN license
and minimum 5 years of current clinical experience.Bachelor's
degree in NursingCIC preferredLocation: Waterbury Hospital -
Performance ImprovementSchedule: Full Time, Days, 40hr Days
7am-3:30pm
