Law ClerkSeeking one or more Law Clerks to work at the expanding Law Offices of Charles L. Kurmay in Milford and Madison, CT who is either currently attending an accredited law school or has recently graduated from one. The Office handles a variety of complex litigation cases that include criminal, civil and probate law in both state and federal courts, in Connecticut and elsewhere. The law clerk will work under the direction of Chuck Kurmay, the Firm's founder, retired Probate Judge and Probate Court Administrator, F. Paul Kurmay, as well as our senior associate, Jamie L. Ottaviano.Job DescriptionThe ideal candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team. They will consistently produce high quality work product with substantial attention to detail in order to achieve long term client goals. They should be able to work independently and manage their time productively, although support and mentoring is always available and questions are encouraged.Necessary RequirementsWhile admission to Connecticut State courts is preferred, we will consider applications from recent graduates and law students from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.Necessary Skills

• Excellent written and interpersonal skills;
• The ability to rapidly comprehend complex matters and develop strategy accordingly;
• Significant organizational and time management skills;
• The ability to organize and analyze voluminous records and to be able to use them in court proceedings;
• Knowledge in Probate administration;
• Proficiency in using WestLaw; and
• Proficiency with technology, and ability to maintain, update and modify documents needed during proceedings.Associate responsibilities
  • Assist attorneys in developing individual matters that are assigned to them from beginning to end in order to achieve a successful result for the client(s);
  • Observe/participate in client meetings and strategy sessions;
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for depositions, motion hearings and trials;
  • Conduct legal research; and
  • Draft motions and briefs.Work HoursThe working hours generally fall in the range of twenty-twenty five hours per week. However, law clerk's may need to work longer hours as the needs of a case are assessed to meet deadlines, particularly in the event of trial.Please submit your resume with cover letter, references, official transcript, if it is available, and writing sample for consideration.
