The Global Research Organization is a multi-disciplinary and highly innovative organization tasked with initiating and developing novel, ground-breaking analytical instrumentation and applications. As a scientific leader you will apply your skills to design, develop, and drive research efforts toward the next generation of liquid chromatography instrumentation. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment alongside talented Waters researchers and with collaborators in the pharmaceutical, biotech, and healthcare industries to advance Waters technologies and bring impactful laboratory solutions to market. -Your talent, ideas, and passion are essential to delivering instrumentation that will impact the development of new therapies, safer food, and the next generation of high-performance materials. The candidate should be a highly capable scientist, skilled in chromatography and with strong prototyping skills, to work in a wide-ranging role which includes advancing fundamental understanding of separation science and developing new prototype technologies. Waters Global Research labs are housed in the Waters world headquarters (Milford, MA) and the Waters Immerse Labs (Cambridge, MA). Responsibilities

  • Identify, drive, and champion novel research efforts to establish the next generation of LC instrumentation.
  • Innovate, assemble, test, and communicate novel instrumentation concepts in the areas of sampling, automated sample handling, LC injection, separation, and detection.
  • Collaborate with internal, industrial, and academic partners to define unmet needs, validate hypotheses, and test prototypes.
    • Provide scientific leadership and technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams which significantly impact Waters Research programs.
    • Provide solutions to complex scientific challenges that are highly creative and unconventional. Contribute to new research and the development of technologically advanced and innovative theories and principles. Communicate with the scientific community through patents and publications in internationally recognized journals. Travel may be required to visit customers, collaborate across Waters sites, and present at global seminars and conferences. Qualifications
      • Bachelors degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience, Masters degree with 3-5 years, PhD with 0-1 year. A graduate degree is desired.
      • Related work experience with a demonstrated innovation record of novel scientific concepts is strongly preferred.
      • Experience and substantial knowledge in liquid chromatography theory, operation, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and repair is required.
      • Practical experience with analytical laboratory procedures including extraction, sample preparation, and LC method development using Waters or related technologies is required.
      • Specific knowledge and demonstrated experience with chromatographic fluidics.
      • Demonstrated experience translating complex technical knowledge across disciplines and an ability to operate in a multidisciplinary research setting.
      • Must be a self-starter and have excellent organizational, and networking skills. The candidate is highly motivated, has a growth mindset, is extremely inquisitive, and has de monstrated significant judgement and freedom to act on their decisions.
      • Rapid, early prototype development skills (i.e. electronics, soldering, machining, etc.) with a demonstrated history of bringing novel ideas to reality for proof-of-concept testing are preferred.
      • Willingness to learn different techniques, positive attitude, work well in a group environment
        • Excellent oral and written communication skills and significant evidence of building good working relationships with collaborators, across many disciplines.
