The Staff Scientist role supports business needs as outlined by
Manager, Sr. Manager, or Director. Independently leads high
complexity projects and influences key technical stakeholders. The
key purpose of the Staff Scientist position is to provide technical
leadership and/or mentorship to less experienced team members or
direct reports. She/ he leads the development of new products by
leveraging technologies to develop products that successfully meet
consumer needs and or that support successful product launches
(i.e. Technical support work, i.e., Test method and Claims
development, Product scale up /stability /etc.).
The essential accountability of this position is to design,
execute and interpret product and consumer research investigation
and to serve as a technical resource for more junior staff members
in support of business needs and objectives.
Work independently and under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and
effectively interact within cross functional teams.
Lead multiple projects of greater level of complexity and
fosters unique technological advancement
Guide, direct or indirect personnel, i.e., Associate Scientist,
Technicians, Interns, Temporary workers; in conducting tasks
associated with projects. Ability to coach, mentor and or
positively influence R&D staff to promote their growth and
organizational bench strength.
Direct and/or perform the design and execution of research
investigations consistent with sound, robust scientific
investigations that meet international standards and are defensible
in front of the scientific community.
Demonstrates solid, scientific-based understanding of the
principles of concentrated area of science and consumer
Presentation of key information in a manner that is coherent and
accurately reflects the results obtained in the research
“Up-to-date” knowledge and application of statistical analysis
procedures for the investigation of product/process/consumer data.
Ability to apply and transfer knowledge to others i.e. junior
Demonstrated actions to take initiative, think and work
independently, problem-solve, work in teams and multitask; a
solution orientated professional.
Maintains and expands “knowledge base” required within the area
Participation in cross-functional and project teams by providing
technical leadership within the area of expertise.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Science with 12+ years’ work experience
Experience in developing formulations for Personal Care
Products, Cosmetic Products and OTCs
DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
M.Sc. with 10+ years’ experience
PhD with 8+ years’ experience
In-depth functional understanding of technical tools that
support testing (automated data collection systems, statistical
software, Microsoft Office, etc.).
In-depth understanding of product/process/consumer based
research as a scientific discipline
Establish and maintain knowledge of patent literature, and the
ability to read, assess and provide an understanding of patent
Excellent organizational, prioritization, and follow up
Ability to frame internal customer needs into actionable
Ability to coordinate projects including the design, execution,
analysis and reporting.
High level proficiency in applying methodologies including
quantitative and qualitative testing, statistics, and design of
experiments to answer objectives.
Ability to function as a collaborating team member in a business
environment to support area of discipline on cross-function
Ability to take initiative, think and work independently,
problem-solve, work in teams
A solution orientated professional with the ability to execute
multiple tasks required to meet project objectives
Skill to maintain an up-to-date, current scientific knowledge
base of most recent developments in area assigned.
Communicates effectively intra and interdepartmentally to meet
project objectives. Able to communicate effectively with both
technical and non-technical colleagues.
