Initiates, leads and implements continuous improvement projects. Provides training activities, and supports/mentors continuous improvement change agents and team members. Communicates successful outcomes and promotes a culture of ongoing continuous improvement. May facilitate kaizen events.The Operational Excellence Manager reports to the VP of Operations and is responsible to lead the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of a sustainable Operational Excellence culture. Advocates and promotes sustainable continuous improvement utilizing Lean systems, Six Sigma tools to drive and deliver safety, quality, production, cost, and service targets for external and internal customers. Serves as a coach and mentor for employees and leadership at all levels in our LEAN business philosophy and approach.Responsibilities

  • Lead operations through lean process and behavior changes, developing highly effective Daily Management processes focused on tools such as basic problem solving (5 why's), kaizen, A3 thinking, value stream mapping, Kanban visual management, pull processes, creation of flow and adherence to standard work.
  • Foster a culture of moving forward in a change environment and continuously assuring buy-in and ownership at all levels.
  • Ensure Lean activities are linked to the business objectives and work with leadership to develop a site lean strategy and transformation plan.
  • Ensure pre-event training, preparation for events, development and implementation of a communication plan, post event follow-up and auditing of results, prompt delivery of required supplies and materials, and mentoring team members.
  • Assume the role of consultant, participant, and/ or lead on Kaizen events and GEMBA walks. Teach and mentor Lean techniques to all levels of the organization, resulting in transformational progress.(Kaizen, 5S, TPM, Set-up reduction, Standard Work, Visual Management, SQDC boards, MDI, etc.).
    • Manage projects that reduce cycle and process lead times, layout changes to improve flow, and projects to reduce inventory
      • Organize and facilitate cost-saving ideation sessions. Work closely with the plant financial staff to analyze, track and monitor all plant cost savings projects. Work with other relevant departments to determine estimated costs, run time, -and cost reduction.
        • Development of new processes, methods and approaches to enhance and add additional business value
          • Development of change and communication plans to support deployments
          • Become a leader in the analytics journey by analyzing and visualizing a variety of data that enables better decisions and faster actions.
          • Provide assistance on development and documentation of KPI's and systems designed to sustain and drive continuous improvement
          • Investigate alternate processes of manufacture and technologies to ensure the most cost-effective product is manufactured, emphasizing automation/mechanization to the maximum extent possibleRequirements
            • Ability to work with leaders to establish goals and performance indicators.
              • Ability to drive for results and an action-oriented self-starter.
              • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills
                • Ability to facilitate and lead cross-functional teams through current state assessments, process mapping exercises, problem solving and root cause analysis and future state design sessions.
                  • Ability to adapt to different personal and learning styles.
                    • Strong consulting and relationship management skills. Ability to build and maintain relationships at various levels in the organization.
                      • Strong analytical problem solver that can work with teams to identify opportunities and can drive rapid, focused, and data-driven solutions.
                      • Strong problem-solving ability using a DMAIC, PDCA, or 8D structure.
                      • Organizational skills necessary to manage multiple tasks.Education and Experience
                        • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Business Management or similar field required
                        • Lean/Six Sigma - Green/Black Belt certification preferred
                        • Certification in applying Lean/Six Sigma and/or TPS principles and methodologies
                        • Must have advanced knowledge in Lean and Operational Excellence approaches
                        • Must have a good understanding of statistical techniques related to process improvement, and an ability to analyze data to gain insights and support problem solving.
                        • Must be able to train, coach and influence leaders and teams
